If It’s Not That Deep, We Can Remove The Scratch

There’s going to be limitations to how much we can remove on a scratch based on how deep it is. Sometimes we can remove 100% of it, other times, we might be able to slightly reduce it.

As much as we’d like to go after every scratch, we can’t work miracles. If the clear coat is too low for us to work, we can only go so for with the sanding or paint correction to reduce the scratch.

If you can feel the scratch with your fingernail, then it’s gone through all the layers of the paint and it is too far deep for us to recover. In certain instances, we might be able to slightly improve the scratch, but once your fingernail can catch the scratch, it’s too far gone.

Although pictures may help for us to see the condition, we’d have to inspect your vehicle in person to see what we can really do.

Houston’s Premier Scratch Removal Specialists

It’s not just about removing the scratch. It’s also having the discipline to know when not to remove the scratch. Before we do any sanding or correction, we’ll take paint measurements to get an idea of how much clear coat is on your paint.

If it falls within a good reference range, we can sand and polish. If there’s very thin clear coat, then we may only be able to polish the vehicle. The final results won’t be as good, but it’s better to have enough clear on your paint for the many more years you have with the vehicle instead of shaving it down to almost nothing.

For instance, we could sand and polish to get 60% of the scratch down but sacrifice a good chunk of clear coat. However, the question is, “Will you ever have to sand and polish this area again over the next 3 years?”. The answer will always be yes.

So if in a few years you have to sand and polish that same panel or area again, you’ll basically be working with almost nothing and will have a much worse time trying to solve the problem.

Did You Get Paint Transfer From a Pole or Car?

One of the more common problems we get is paint transfer from a car or pole skidding on the side of your vehicle. In the best of circumstances, we can polish it out and get 90% of the paint transfer off.

Other times, we might be able to achieve great results of removing the paint transfer, but underneath that paint are the actual deep scratches that are left from the hit.
